Isoconazole
Candidiasis can be treated with the imidazole drugs like isoconazole (Gyno-Travogen) pessaries. A Single dose vaginal applications of these (600mg) can be very effective. Recurrent infections may require longer courses of vaginal treatment for 3-6 days.
If vulval soreness orpruritus is present, vaginal therapy should be combined with antifungal cream, applied twice daily to the external genitalia. Nystatin vaginal pessaries are a cheaper and equally effective treatment require courses of up to 14 days.
An atifungal cream can also be given to sexual partner to reduce the risk 0f re-infection. Possible reservoirs of e.g. nail beds, digits should be looked for and the MSU culture.
