Caspofungin
Caspofungin is an antifungal drug, the first of a new class termed the echinocandins. It is used to treat Aspergillus and Candida infection, and works by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. It is administered intravenously.
Usual Doses
Doses of 35-70 mg/day have been applied in trials already reported . The recommended dose of caspofungin in invasive aspergillosis is a single loading dose of 70 mg on day 1, followed by 50 mg daily then on. The duration of therapy depends on the severity of the infection, immune status of the host, and clinical response.
Side-Effects
Minimal side effects have been observed. Infusion may cause histamine release .
